The Italian compounder Sirmax has officially launched a new Electrical & Electronics business unit aimed at expanding its portfolio of engineering plastics for the E/E industry — a natural extension of its well-established presence in the household appliances sector.
To support the new division, Sirmax is investing €3 million in laboratories, UL certifications and dedicated personnel. Research and development will be conducted at the company’s site in San Vito al Tagliamento (Pordenone, northern Italy), where its engineering plastics production is based, and in Palwal, India, where a recent revamping project has doubled local production capacity (see article).
The Electrical & Electronics unit will be led by Alberto Priore, who will be responsible for market analysis, identifying emerging trends, tracking competitors and uncovering new business opportunities. He will also spearhead innovative commercial strategies aimed at boosting both sales volumes and profitability.
Sirmax already supplies compounds for the electrical and electronics market. The creation of a dedicated division will allow the company to take a more structured approach, optimizing resources and production processes to better serve global demand.
Main applications include cabling, switchboards, circuit breakers, battery components and connectors — essentially any area that requires high thermal resistance materials. Sirmax also highlights the growing importance of engineered plastics in AI-related technologies.
E/E compounds must meet high performance standards and comply with strict international regulations. In line with these demands, Sirmax has recently increased its production of recycled and flame-retardant grades, enhancing its manufacturing capabilities in the United States and Poland.
“We believe the E/E sector will increasingly be dominated by large, strategic players,” said Massimo Pavin, Sirmax president and CEO. “Today, it’s essential to operate on a global scale, have a strong commercial presence and be able to invest in product development. This sector is poised for growth, especially through the use of green materials derived from post-consumer plastic waste.”
