Highsun Akro has inaugurated its second engineering plastics compounding plant in Fuzhou, China.
The joint venture was established in 2022 by Akro-Plastic, which holds a 49% stake and is part of Germany’s Feddersen Group, and Fujian Highsun Engineering Plastics, which owns the remaining 51% and is an integrated producer of polyamide 6.

The new facility has a nominal production capacity of 100,000 tonnes of compounds per year and incorporates the ICX compounding technology developed by the German partner.

Production will focus on Akromid compounds based on PA6, PA66 and PPA, as well as PA66/PPA blends marketed under the Akroloy brand. The materials are intended for applications in the automotive, electrical and electronics sectors, as well as in kitchen and bathroom products.

The site will also house an application research and development laboratory, combining the expertise of the two partners to adapt materials and formulations to the requirements of the Chinese market.

Following the start-up of the Fuzhou factory, Highsun Akro now operates two production hubs in China. The Changzhou site will be dedicated primarily to highly specialised polyamide compounds, while the new plant will focus on high-volume production and cost-competitive compounds.

Geographically, the two-site footprint is expected to enable the company to serve both eastern and southern China, reducing response times and improving supply reliability.
