At the request of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) in Turin, Italian authorities have carried out 13 precautionary arrests targeting members of a transnational criminal network accused of orchestrating a massive VAT fraud scheme in the plastics trade. The operation, dubbed “Polimero,” was part of a sweeping cross-border investigation.
Investigators estimate the fraud yielded illicit profits of €100 million, with non-existent transactions totaling €500 million between 2018 and 2023.
