Sorema, the recycling systems division of Italian company Previero, contributed to a project for the recycling of post-industrial polyolefin films at the UK company Coveris-ReCover, leveraging its expertise in deinking printed LDPE films to enable the reuse of material in new flexible packaging.
The Sorema plant has a production capacity of up to 1,000 kg/h for films and 1,500 kg/h for rigid packaging.
The line features two main components: a batch reactor, where the deinking process is performed, and a water filtration system that minimizes water and chemical consumption.
According to the Italian company, the batch reactor is the most efficient solution given the wide range of formulations, pigments, primers, and substrates, allowing precise control of time, friction, and chemical concentration.
Sorema delivered its first deinking plant to Coveris-ReCover in 2023 and, in the summer of 2024, further enhanced the line by introducing several innovations. The chemical formulation of the detergents was developed by Sortology, making the deinking process more cost-effective and expanding the possibility of working with other types of plastics.
