Biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film manufacturer Irplast has completed the installation of a new extrusion line featuring LISIM technology from Brückner Maschinenbau at its Atessa site in the province of Chieti, central Italy. The photo shows, on the right, the new production area built to house the line.
The inauguration is scheduled for 15 September.

The project is aligned with the objectives of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). The new plant will have an annual production capacity of around 30,000 tonnes of specialty films for recyclable multilayer structures designed as polypropylene mono-material solutions.

The line is a key part of the approximately €60 million industrial investment plan launched in recent years by the Tuscany-based company, which is part of Japan’s Toppan Group, to support innovation, growth and international expansion.

“The expansion of the Atessa site is the natural consequence of the significant growth Irplast has recorded in international markets over the past decade and will enable us to respond even more effectively to the growing demand for sustainable, high-tech packaging,” said Fausto Cosi, pictured, Chairman and CEO of the company. “By using state-of-the-art technologies, we will be able to combine innovation, competitiveness and environmental responsibility.”

Irplast employs 380 people across three plants in Italy: one in Empoli, in the province of Florence, and two in Atessa, in the province of Chieti. In 2024, the company generated revenues of approximately €102 million, with exports to more than 70 countries accounting for 75% of the total.
