German group Gerresheimer has completed the acquisition of Blitz LuxCo, the holding company that owns Bormioli Pharma, a deal originally announced in May.
The Italian company generated approximately €371 million in revenue last year, operating nine facilities across Italy, France, and Germany—five focused on plastics and four on glass—and employing around 1,500 people.
The company manufactures pharmaceutical primary packaging made of glass and plastic as well as closure solutions, accessories, and dosing systems.
With this acquisition, Gerresheimer strengthens its European footprint, expands its production platform, and solidifies its position as a global partner for the pharmaceutical, biotech, and cosmetics industries, offering integrated solutions.
“We can now focus on the integration of Bormioli Pharma into the Gerresheimer Group,” said Dietmar Siemssen, CEO of Gerresheimer. “We are convinced that our customers will benefit from the expansion of the product portfolio and new, integrated systems and solutions.”
Bormioli Pharma will become part of the Gerresheimer Group and will be fully consolidated retroactively as of December 1, 2024, the start of Gerresheimer's new financial year 2025.
Gerresheimer specializes in containment and drug delivery systems for the pharmaceutical, biotech, and cosmetics industries. The company operates more than 40 production facilities across 16 countries in Europe, the Americas, and Asia. With a workforce of around 13,400 employees, it generated nearly €2 billion in revenue in 2023.
