Shareholders of US-based Origin Materials have approved the company’s plan of complete liquidation and dissolution, marking another step in the orderly wind-down of operations announced in recent months.
The vote was held on July 1 during a special meeting. The liquidation proposal received 2,043,101 votes in favour, 66,752 votes against and 13,326 abstentions.
Origin Materials had already announced its intention to sell the CapFormer technology for the production of PET closures, developed to allow bottles and caps to be made from the same polymer and simplify the recycling of mono-material packaging.
The California-based company launched its first PET closures at pilot scale in August 2025 and signed a commercial agreement with Berlin Packaging. Following the cost cuts decided in February, the board of directors approved the sale of the remaining assets and the subsequent liquidation, which shareholders have now authorised.
