VinylPlus Cables and VinylPlus Pipes have been created within VinylPlus, the European PVC industry’s voluntary commitment to environmental sustainability. The two initiatives are designed to coordinate activities related to PVC cables and PVC pipes, respectively.
The new platforms build on the legacy of PVC4Cables and PVC4Pipes, initiatives promoted by the European Council of Vinyl Manufacturers (ECVM) to foster innovation, technical performance, sustainability and the circular economy in major PVC applications for infrastructure, energy, construction and industry.
VinylPlus Cables has been established to provide stronger coordination across the technical performance, safety, sustainability and circular economy aspects of PVC cables used in energy, communication and industrial applications. Through the initiative, the European value chain will strengthen cooperation on topics including fire safety performance, regulatory compliance, standardisation and lifecycle assessment of cable systems.
The initiative will also contribute to informed discussion on the safety and environmental performance of PVC cables through dialogue with policymakers, standardisation bodies and technical experts. VinylPlus Cables will also monitor regulatory developments affecting the sector, facilitating dialogue with authorities, specifiers, researchers and industry stakeholders to support data- and evidence-based decision-making.
With VinylPlus Pipes, the PVC pipe value chain also becomes part of the European PVC industry’s voluntary commitment to environmental sustainability. The platform will continue the work started by PVC4Pipes on issues related to the technical performance, sustainability and circular economy of PVC pipes used in water management, energy distribution and building applications.
The initiative aims to support technical knowledge of the long-term behaviour of PVC pipes, including design lifetime, leak tightness and lifecycle performance. It will also contribute to the implementation of European drinking water requirements through a science-based approach and engagement with policymakers and technical stakeholders.
VinylPlus Pipes will also monitor regulatory and policy developments affecting the sector, facilitating dialogue with public authorities, utilities, researchers and industry experts to support informed decision-making on long-life infrastructure.
