Synthos has decided to sell to fellow Polish group Orlen the company S54, which is building a new butadiene extraction unit at the Plock complex.

The transaction is valued at PLN 692 million (about €164 million).

Once completed, the unit will become an integral part of Orlen’s production plant in Plock, processing the entire C4 output and delivering raffinate for downstream petrochemical processes.

The two companies have been cooperating for several years on the project, as part of the petrochemical expansion in P?ock. The butadiene unit had been carved out into a separate company, S54, outside Orlen’s operational and ownership perimeter; with this agreement Orlen regains full control of the unit.

The agreement forms part of Synthos’s investment reorganization process and reflects ongoing delays in the Olefins III project. In December last year, Orlen decided to discontinue Olefins III in its original scope and to continue development under the New Chemicals initiative.
