As announced last year at Fakuma, the Austrian Wittmann Group is set to start injection molding machine production in China at its Kunshan site, which had previously been dedicated to robots and auxiliaries such as temperature controllers, conveying systems, compact dryers and granulators.
The machines will be destined primarily for the local market.

In recent days, the expansion of the Chinese facility was officially inaugurated. The site now also houses a technical center and a dedicated training area, which will be used for demonstrations and interdisciplinary projects with customers.

“Our new plant represents Wittmann’s transformation from a component supplier to a full-service systems solution provider,” said Kevin Wang, general manager of Wittmann Kunshan and Wittmann Battenfeld Shanghai, at the opening ceremony. “We can now offer our customers integrated systems solutions from a single source, produced entirely in China, with shorter delivery times and the cost advantages of local production.”

Initially, production will focus on the all-electric EcoPrimus 100 injection molding machine, with a clamping force of 100 tons, which was presented at K 2025. “The goal is to build 100 machines in China next year,” explained  Werner Wittmann, founder and owner of the Wittmann Group.

The investment has increased the site’s total area by more than 10,000 square meters, including 6,500 square meters dedicated to production, bringing total production space to 13,000 square meters, and 3,500 square meters of office space, effectively doubling the plant’s production capacity. The expansion goes beyond additional floor space, as all processes have been optimized, with interconnected production areas for mechanical processing, assembly and painting.

The Kunshan facility will not only serve as a manufacturing hub but also as a new research and development center, which was previewed to guests during the inauguration. “With our own development activities, we will be able to respond more quickly and flexibly to the specific requirements of the Asian market in sectors such as packaging, medical devices, automotive and home appliances,” Wang added.
