At the upcoming edition of Pharmapack Europe, scheduled for January 22-23 in Paris, TekniPlex Healthcare will unveil new developments in healthcare packaging – including a recyclable transparent medium-barrier blister – and highlight recent investments in production capacities at its facilities in Italy and Belgium.
In Italy, at the Modena facility, the U.S.-based group has added "substantial" injection-blow molding capacity for multi-dose bottles designed for liquid pharmaceutical applications, particularly ophthalmic products, manufactured in an ISO 8 cleanroom environment.
Standard bottles range from 5-30 ml, including a 10 ml squeezable container designed specifically for Aptar Pharma‘s Ophthalmic Squeeze Dispenser (OSD) technology platform, which serves preservative-free multidose formulations in eyecare.
The facility also produces vertical bellow bottles, used for surgical powders and other applications, available in 3 ml and 9 ml volumes, equipped with injection-molded cannulas.
TekniPlex Healthcare is also expanding its cleanroom production at its Puurs facility in Belgium, focusing on multi-layer blown films and bags.
Building upon a services introduction launched in early 2024, TekniPlex Healthcare is now offering co-extruded blown films and bags with up to five layers, with a particular focus on PE-EVOH-PE constructions providing exemplary oxygen barrier properties.
At Pharmapack Europe, TekniPlex Healthcare will showcase its range of environmentally friendly blister packaging suitable for use on standard machines. Recently, the company introduced a pharmaceutical-grade blister film containing 30% post-consumer recycled content, attributed via mass balance. The solution incorporates Alpek Polyester's Octal rDPET Sheet technology combined with TekniPlex's Teknilid Push polyester lidding, enabling blister recyclability where a polyester (PET) collection stream is available.
TekniPlex Healthcare has also developed what it claims to be the first fully recyclable, completely transparent mid-barrier blister, consisting of a polyolefin thermoformed film paired with a polypropylene moisture-barrier lidding film. After use, the packaging can be recycled within the polypropylene waste stream. Additionally, TekniPlex Healthcare will present a recyclable polyester-based mono-material blister + lidding combination suitable for products not requiring a barrier.
Finally, TekniPlex Healthcare will showcase its Flexapharm SBC series, made from PVC coated with PVDC, offering oxygen and moisture barriers, as well as Aclar laminates designed to preserve drug efficacy and shelf life for products requiring stringent environmental protection.
