Renolit, the German manufacturer of plastic films, sheets and other products, is investing €56 million at its headquarters in Worms, Germany, in a new plant for mixing raw materials - plastics, additives and pigments - for film production.

Launched in February, the project aims to increase automation and reduce the manual handling of containers. Automated self-driving transport vehicles will transfer materials between the new multi-storey building and the existing production department via an enclosed steel tunnel.

The new plant will initially be equipped with eight outdoor storage silos, with the option to expand to as many as 16, along with 37 automatic weighing stations and a dedicated system for dosing small quantities, such as pigments, with gram-level precision. Six mixing stations controlled by a computerised system are also planned.

To improve energy efficiency, the building will be heated by heat pumps, while the mixers will feature a new drive system designed to improve cooling and reduce noise levels. Structural containment measures are also planned to prevent the accidental release of substances into the environment.

Construction of the building is expected to be completed by December. Installation of the plant equipment will begin as early as November, while commissioning of the new dosing plant is scheduled for June 2027.

Renolit operates in more than 20 countries, with over 30 production and sales sites, and specialises in manufacturing plastic films, sheets and other components. In 2024, the company generated sales of almost €1.2 billion and employed around 5,000 people.
