Ineos Styrolution will permanently shut down its polystyrene production plant in Channahon, Illinois, by the end of this year, reducing the number of North American plants dedicated to the polymer from three to two.
Customers will in future be supplied from the sites in Decatur, Alabama, and Altamira, Mexico.

Located approximately 45 miles southwest of Chicago, the Channahon site has been in operation since 1960. It employs around 100 people and has a production capacity of approximately 400,000 metric tons of polystyrene per year.
