Flexible plastic packaging producer Coveris has acquired the business and assets of GEFO Folienbetrieb, a producer of cast polypropylene (CPP) films based in Gera, Germany.
Founded in 1994, the German company operates five film extrusion lines for structures with up to seven layers, with a maximum width of 2,080 mm and thicknesses ranging from 25 to 75 μm.
Before the transaction, Coveris Kufstein was the group’s only dedicated CPP extrusion site and had been operating at full capacity to meet growing customer demand, particularly for recyclable mono-material packaging solutions.
The integration of GEFO’s business enables Coveris to expand its cast PP film production capabilities, while broadening its product portfolio in high-growth application areas including retort packaging, lidding films, bakery bags, medical packaging and other non-food applications.
Coveris estimates average annual growth of around 3% for CPP films in Europe, with higher rates of more than 4% per year in the most technical segments, such as retort, medical and lidding applications.
“GEFO is an excellent addition to our existing network and further strengthens our sustainability strategy,” said Christian Kolarik, CEO of Coveris (pictured). “Demand for recyclable mono-material packaging continues to grow across Europe, making the expansion of our CPP capabilities for high-performance applications a logical next step.”
