After introducing the Renycle brand for recycled polyamide-based compounds three years ago at Fakuma, RadiciGroup has once again chosen the German trade show to unveil its new brand, Bionside. This brand will identify polyamides that are partially or entirely produced from renewable raw materials.
This family will include both the existing Radilon D line of PA610-based compounds and experimental materials such as PA56, PA510, and PA1012. These are high-performance technical materials characterized by a reduced carbon footprint due to their biobased origin.
Polyamide 610, obtained from castor oil plant seeds, is hydrolysis-resistant and suitable for applications in the automotive sector, such as under-the-hood components like cooling system connectors, ducts, pump parts, and thermostat bodies. Another area where these technopolymers excel is in water management, thanks to their resistance to hydrolysis and improved dimensional stability, with water absorption reduced to about one-third of that of PA6 or PA66. With a renewable content of 64%, RadiciGroup estimates that these materials result in a CO2 emission reduction of around 70% compared to fossil-based polyamides.
Erico Spini, global marketing director for RadiciGroup High Performance Polymers, explained: “We are stepping on the accelerator to deliver a product offering that guarantees high technical performance and, at the same time, ensures the sustainability of the projects developed together with our customers. At the trade show, some production applications made with Radilon D (PA610) will be on display, as well as experimental new grades.”
Spini added that their R&D focus is on studying and experimenting with new products, including those that are 100% biobased and sourced from renewable resources, to expand their sustainable offering and highlight specific technical performance.
Bionside is not the only novelty to be showcased at Fakuma. The company will also introduce a new family of halogen-free flame-retardant materials based on PBT from the Radiflam B series, completing its offering for the E/E and electric mobility sectors.
In the e-mobility sector, three new orange-colored, halogen-free products will be presented, based on Radiflam B (PBT), Radiflam Aestus (PPA), and Radilon D (PA610 for extrusion).
RadiciGroup will also showcase several grades for the hydrogen and fuel cell industries, including a high-purity Radilon Aestus grade for fuel cell components based on PPA and two grades of the Radilon S family, PA6 materials designed for blow-molding and injection-molding hydrogen tanks.
Lastly, after the launch of AutoInsight three years ago at Fakuma, RadiciGroup has chosen Fakuma 2024 as the right venue to introduce the new features of the tool developed to navigate a car in 3D mode and targeted at all the operators in the automotive value chain.
