Sphere España, the Spanish subsidiary of the French manufacturer of packaging and biobased compostable materials for films and bags, has acquired the Catalan company Plastibag, which specializes in the production of recycled plastic garbage bags for the professional sector, including hotels, catering, cleaning companies, hospitals and industry.

Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Balsareny, inland from Barcelona, the company employs around 30 people and reports annual revenues of approximately €10 million. Each year, it processes around 6,000 tonnes of recycled polyethylene.

With the acquisition of Plastibag, the French group — already active in Spain in the retail sector — aims to accelerate its growth in the professional segment.

“This transaction represents a key milestone for Sphere in Spain, a priority market for our European development,” said Jean-François Gallet, president of the Sphere Group. “Plastibag has a strong and well-recognized commercial and industrial expertise within its customer base. Together, we will strengthen our offering of 100% recycled bags for businesses and respond to the rapidly growing demand for more sustainable solutions.”
