With a brief statement, Ineos Styrolution has announced the permanent closure of its polystyrene (PS) production facility in Wingles, France.
The communication follows several warnings issued by the UK-based group in recent months regarding the increasingly challenging conditions facing European plastics manufacturers, caught between high energy costs and mounting competition from low-cost imports originating from Asia, the Middle East and North America.
Ineos Styrolution said that European PS customers will be served from its facility in Antwerp, Belgium, which it describes as state-of-the-art in terms of technology and strategically located near key suppliers and clients.
The closure of the PS line will not affect the ABS production unit at the Wingles site, which was launched three years ago through the conversion of a former PS unit.
