Italian Plastic Tax postponed to 2027

The government has delayed the introduction of the plastic tax for the eighth consecutive time. Industry association Unionplast welcomes the move and calls for the levy’s full cancellation.

plastics tax The Italian government’s draft budget plan, presented yesterday, has once again postponed the implementation of the €450-per-tonne tax on single-use plastic products (MACSI), now scheduled to come into effect on Jan. 1, 2027, instead of the previously set date of July 1, 2026. The same extension applies to the sugar tax on sweetened beverages.
