Three leading European plastics associations — EuPC, PlasticsEurope and Petcore Europe — have called on the European Commission not to increase the EU plastic tax currently applied to non-recycled plastic packaging waste across member states.
As previously reported in July (see article), the EU’s proposal for its long-term budget 2028–34, under the section “Own Resources,” foresees an increase in the plastics levy from €0.80 per kilogram to €1 per kilogram of non-recycled packaging. In 2023, this levy generated €7.2 billion in revenue.
