Technip Energies, Alterra and Neste have agreed to combine their respective expertise and technologies to develop Nerea, a modular, highly standardised solution for the chemical recycling of plastic waste that is difficult to recover using conventional mechanical technologies, including heterogeneous, complex, multilayer and flexible waste.
Stemming from the collaboration agreement signed in November 2024, Nerea combines Alterra’s thermochemical liquefaction technology with Neste’s expertise in chemical recycling, particularly in the purification of pyrolysis oil for use in petrochemical processes instead of fossil raw materials, and Technip Energies’ engineering and modularisation capabilities.
Nerea, the three project partners explain, features a standardised, modular design aimed at reducing pre-investment requirements and project complexity, while providing greater certainty on costs and timelines and enabling rapid deployment in different industrial environments.
