The EU Council has approved the draft regulation on preventing the release of plastic pellets into the environment, following a provisional agreement with the European Parliament.

The measure aims to reduce microplastic pollution by strengthening the control and management of plastic pellets throughout the supply chain.

For the legislative process to be completed, only the Parliament’s final vote remains, scheduled for October.
Once adopted, the regulation will enter into force 20 days after publication in the Official Journal of the EU, with most provisions applying two years later
