Arkema has started up a new production plant in Singapore for transparent polyamide 11, marketed under the Rilsan Clear brand. The investment, amounting to about $20 million, was announced last July as part of a broader development program in specialty materials.
The new unit will enable the French chemicals group to meet growing demand in Asia for high-performance transparent materials in key segments, including eyewear, AR/VR and smart consumer electronics, industrial filtration, healthcare devices and home appliances.
Polyamide 11 is derived from castor seeds, a renewable feedstock. Rilsan Clear grades combine light weight, high transparency, flexibility and chemical resistance, and can be recycled at end of life through Arkema’s Virtucycle program, launched in 2019.
Arkema also offers Rilsan Clear Rnew G850 and G820 grades, which contain 45% and 62% bio-based carbon, respectively.
