The French government has decided to postpone by four years — to 2030 — the ban on single-use plastic cups that was scheduled to take effect Jan. 1, 2026.
As explained by the Ministry for Ecological Transition, the decision is linked to the difficulty in identifying sustainable replacements.
The ministry has announced that it will carry out a new assessment in two years to evaluate progress in phasing out single-use plastic cups.
The ban is now set to take effect Jan. 1, 2030, although companies will have an additional 12 months to sell off remaining stocks.
