A new integrated production hub for caustic soda, ethylene dichloride (EDC), vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) — with a total capacity of 1.9 million tonnes per year — will be built in the coming years in Ruwais, United Arab Emirates, as part of the petrochemical complex being developed by Ta’Ziz.
In recent days, the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the new facility was awarded to China National Chemical Engineering & Construction Corporation Seven (CC7). The contract is valued at $1.99 billion.
The project is scheduled for completion by the fourth quarter of 2028. Once operational, the plant will become the first integrated PVC facility in the UAE and one of the three largest single-site PVC complexes in the world.
The announcement follows EPC contracts for ammonia and methanol plants within Phase 1 of the Ta’Ziz ecosystem, which has a combined capacity of 4.7 million tonnes per year. This initiative aims to establish one of the largest integrated chemical platforms in the Gulf region.
