Georg Pescher (left in the photo), managing director of the Alpla Group for Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, has been elected the new president of IK Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen, the association representing German plastic packaging manufacturers.
He succeeds Roland Straßburger (right in the photo), who completed his six-year term at the helm of the organization.
Pescher was elected during the IK's general assembly, held recently in Frankfurt.
In his speech, the new president expressed his commitment to promoting a positive perception of sustainable plastic packaging and advocating for balanced regulation that protects the climate and conserves resources. "We need the same rules for everyone if the European packaging regulation is to become a positive component of the Green Deal, as well as of the EU internal market. Facts must count," he said.
An engineering graduate, Pescher has been with the Alpla Group for over 15 years—the first 10 as plant manager, and subsequently as the head of three European markets. He has long been involved in defending the interests of the plastic packaging industry within IK, particularly in the area of PET beverage bottles.
Christian Claes of Profectus Films was re-elected as vice president, and Hans Bresele of Allvac Folien as treasurer.
