After announcing in January that it had placed its Silicones division under strategic review, Elkem has now confirmed that it has entered into exclusive negotiations with a potential buyer, an unnamed major industrial player with a strong global presence in the chemicals industry.
The company stated that “the contemplated process is well aligned with the strategic review and represents an important milestone amid a challenging market environment.”
Elkem believes the sale would represent the best possible outcome for the Silicones division, as well as for the company and all its stakeholders.
Subject to successful negotiations, signing of an agreement and necessary approvals, the closing of the transaction is expected in the first half of 2026.
Listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange, Elkem employs more than 7,300 people across 30 production sites worldwide. The Silicones division is fully integrated, covering the entire value chain from silicon metal to siloxane monomers and specialties, with major production facilities in France and China.
