Brussels has no antitrust objections to LyondellBasell’s sale of its European olefins and polyolefins operations to Germany’s Aequita Management.
Announced in early June (see article), the deal covers the complexes at Berre in France, Münchsmünster in Germany, Carrington in the U.K. and Tarragona in Spain (see graphic).
In total, the assets represent about 1.4 million tonnes per year of ethylene and propylene capacity, nearly 1 million tonnes per year of polypropylene and 650,000 tonnes per year of polyethylene, plus derivatives.
According to the European Commission, the divestment — reviewed under the simplified procedure — does not raise competition concerns because the parties are not active in the same markets, nor in vertically related ones.
