European Bioplastics, the association representing the interests of the bioplastics industry in Europe, has transferred its main operations from Berlin to Brussels — the political core of the European Union — to strengthen its advocacy efforts and ensure a more direct and continuous dialogue with EU institutions, as well as expand its network and enhance its presence within the EU policy landscape.
Although the organization had already established a representative office in Brussels in 2023, the Berlin office will remain operational — albeit with a reduced role — to support ongoing initiatives such as the European Bioplastics Conference, the management of the Seedling label, and research and innovation activities.
Coinciding with the relocation to Brussels, Lorenza Romanese (pictured) joins the organization as Secretary General . According to a press release, she will lead the association through a new phase of development, with the goal of further integrating bioplastics into European policy frameworks.
Romanese previously served as managing director of EIHA, the European Industrial Hemp Association. Her professional background also includes roles in a wine industry association and at the OMV Group as a policy officer focused on European environmental and energy policies. She holds a degree in international and diplomatic sciences from the University of Trieste and a Master of Arts from the University of Florence.
