Danish toy manufacturer Lego ended 2024 on a high note, with rising demand and supply fueling growth.
The company is advancing its strategy of expanding production capacity while increasing the use of more sustainable plastics in its bricks.
Last year, revenue grew by 13%, reaching 74.3 billion Danish kroner (DKK), approximately €10 billion, with improved market share and profitability. Operating profit rose by 10% to DKK 18.7 billion, while net profit increased by 5% to DKK 13.8 billion (€1.85 billion).
"We achieved record top- and bottom-line results even as we accelerated spending on strategic priorities, including a significant increase in the purchases of sustainable raw materials," said CEO Niels B. Christiansen. "We are encouraged by these strong results as they will allow us to continue to reach more children with Lego play experiences now and in the future."
Lego continues to expand its production capacity, with two major investments underway in Vietnam and the United States. The Vietnamese facility is set to begin operations in the coming months, while the U.S. plant is scheduled to launch in 2026. Additionally, the company has completed two new regional distribution centers in Belgium and Vietnam.
Lego has reaffirmed its environmental commitments, with half of the ABS materials used in brick production now sourced sustainably. This includes 47% certified mass balance bio-circular feedstock, translating to an estimated average of 33% material from renewable sources, while another 3% comes from segregated sustainable sources, including "green" polyethylene (bio-PE) and bio-based or recycled acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (arMABS).
For comparison, in 2023, only 18% of total purchased bio-circular materials were attributed through mass balance (12% in the bricks).
Decarbonization efforts have also advanced significantly. The Lego Group continued phasing out natural gas heating in Denmark, installed geothermal energy in Hungary and increased solar energy production in China, the Czech Republic and Denmark by 43%.
