Versalis will permanently shut down its cracking plant in Brindisi, southern Italy, by April while keeping the polyethylene production facility operational. As part of the group’s restructuring plan for chemical operations, €700 million will be invested in Brindisi to begin producing lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) energy storage systems by the end of 2028.
The gigafactory project will use two areas, each about four hectares, for producing active materials and energy storage systems in the plant’s western section.
