Promaplast, the event organizer, recently unveiled the program for GreenPlast, the exhibition and conference on plastics and environmental sustainability, set to take place in Italy from May 27 to 30, 2025, at the Milan Exhibition Center. The event is part of The Innovation Alliance—a collaboration of four fairs: Ipack-Ima, Print4All, Intralogistica Italia, and GreenPlast. The fairs will collectively occupy the exhibition complex for four days, allowing visitors free access to all pavilions.
Mario Maggiani, CEO of Promaplast (pictured), outlined the strategy for allocating exhibition space. Pre-furnished stands, priced at €265 per square meter, will be mandatory for spaces under 64 square meters, while customized setups will only be allowed for areas of 65 square meters or more. “This approach,” Maggiani explained, “is designed not to fill the pavilion with oversized booths but to ensure a uniform presentation and emphasize both exhibitors and the conference program.”
For the first time, conference organization will be managed by AMI (Applied Market Information), a UK-based consultancy. Andy Beevers, Events Director at AMI, provided a preview of the program, which will be finalized by January.
Over the four days, sessions will cover innovation, market trends, regulations, and best practices in areas such as plastic waste management, recycling, energy efficiency in production, and biopolymers.
The first day will focus on sustainability strategies, with contributions from representatives of various sectors, including polymer producers, packaging manufacturers, and recyclers. Among the notable names mentioned are Lavazza and Gruppo Happy from Italy, EuPC representing industry associations (European Plastics Converters), and a law firm providing insights on European regulations.
The day after will be dedicated to the sourcing and management of plastic waste, beginning with a presentation by AMI on the evolution of the plastics market in Europe. Companies specializing in waste management will take part, discussions will address automation in sorting, and a session will explore the fundamental principles of design for recycling, featuring a training seminar and a panel of iconic brands.
The third day will concentrate on mechanical recycling, with an AMI presentation on the sector's prospects in Europe. This will be followed by a session on closing the waste cycle, featuring input from companies in the field. In the afternoon, a technology showcase on upcycling is planned, with the presentation of case studies.
The final day of GreenPlast will be devoted to chemical recycling and the role this technology can play in transforming plastic waste into valuable resources. Presentations will examine technological advancements and projects focused on packaging reuse. Some of the world’s leading polymer producers, including LyondellBasell and Trinseo, will participate.
GreenPlast will also feature a presentation of Assorimap’s report on mechanical recycling of plastics in Italy.
Participation in the conferences and entry to the exhibition area will be free of charge, subject to registration. The conference will be held in English with simultaneous translation into Italian.
The first edition of GreenPlast in 2022 drew more than 20,000 visitors from 55 countries and featured 170 exhibitors across 6,000 square meters in a single pavilion. Organizers aim to match these numbers in the second edition, despite economic challenges. “Achieving this would be an excellent result,” commented Maggiani. “While some companies have reduced their booth sizes, the total number of exhibitors remains steady.”
