European plastic waste recyclers are under pressure: declining demand for recycled materials, reduced investment in domestic recycling, and rising imports from outside the EU are suffocating the industry—a trend that has been ongoing for several years.

Plastics Recyclers Europe has sounded the alarm again regarding the economic challenges facing the sector, urging action at the European level to stop a decline that has already led to the closure of recycling plants in 2023, with further shutdowns expected this year.
